Education inspiring Peace – Systemic Upscaling of Peace Education pRactices
Focus contributing to bringing peace, intercultural dialogue and civic participation to the core of education policy and school practice by scaling up the results of existing good practices in view of producing significant improvements in learning outcomes of life competencies for youngsters living in Europe
- Organizing data and narratives of existing good practices by identifying common “good practice elements” that can be used in different contexts;
- Piloting and evaluating different sets of combined good practice elements in twenty schools;
- Proposing self-assessment and benchmarking tools freely accessible to all interested schools;
- Identifying competences requirements for school heads and educators to implement a “whole institution approach” to peace education, using the successful experience already in place and developing their own initiative in a collaborative international environment.
- Good practices report and analytical framework;
- Teachers’ competence framework including identification of critical competences for educators in peace education and development of self-assessment tools for schools, concept validation of proposed qualification in a Qualification Framework;
- Education for Peace Handbook selection of learning resources and elaboration of trainings;
- Policy recommendation, collaborative benchmarking system and long for the elaboration and implementation of school diversity policies and action plans;
- Online benchmarking system;
- Establishing a permanent peace laboratory on transferability of good practices in the International Institute for Humanitarian Law, based in Sanremo (Italy).
In line with regulations set by the European Union all project materials that are delivered will be free of cost and for use to the benefit of the (schooling) community as a whole.

The consortium partners
FREREF is a network organization of 30 regions, regional bodies and organisms acting in the area of LifeLongLearning located in Lyon, France.
The objective of FREREF is to promote and support the real and concrete development of LLL at Regional and European levels, enabling interregional cooperation based on practice sharing and peer learning, and by reinforcing the links between the regional actors and the European context, which is strongly and rapidly evolving regarding LLL.
The FREREF network is acting through three main channels:
- The annual European University of Regions and Territories is a unique place to share experiences, discuss about new possible developments, prepare new projects, propagate innovations in LLL;
- European Projects enable to develop concrete partnerships, tools, processes, to foster and sustain innovative moves for improving LLL practices.
- The participation in larger actions at the Commission and Parliament level give the possibility to present the positions of FREREF members regarding key issues in LLL policy.
UNIMORE the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia is among the oldest University in the world and has always been ranked among the first Italian universities for quality of teaching and research since 2007. UNIMORE is a networked campus located in the towns of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It has international exchange agreements and cooperation programs to encourage students and researchers to actively interact in a globalized world. Ministry for Education and Employment, Malta

International Institute of Humanitarian Law, Italy
IIHL is an independent, non-profit, humanitarian organization located in Villa Ormond, Sanremo Italy.
The main purpose of the institute is to promote international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law, migration law and related issues by organizing specific training programs (courses, workshops, etc.), international conferences, thematic seminars and round tables. Thanks to its specific, well-tested experience the Institute has earned an international reputation as a center of excellence in the field of training, research, and the dissemination of all aspects of international humanitarian law. Considering the aims is pursues the institute works in close collaboration with most important international organizations.
European School Heads Association (ESHA)

The European School Heads Association (The Netherlands), is a professional organization for European School Heads. Members of ESHA are national organisations for school heads and deputy school heads within (pre-) primary, secondary and vocational education. Nearly all European countries (both EU and non-EU) are represented within ESHA by one or more organisations.
ESHA is an international community in which experiences, visions and views between members are exchanged and in which new ideas are born. ESHA connects school leaders, researchers and policy makers with the collective aim to learn from each other and improve education.
ESHA’s main role in the GEM project is dissemination of deliverables (see above).
